Ceramic art is an enduring form of artistic expression, where the relationship between material, form, and touch gives rise to objects that exist between function and sculpture.

Rooted in ancient traditions yet constantly evolving, it offers endless possibilities for experimentation, allowing simple natural materials to be transformed into expressive and meaningful forms.

Through the process of shaping, firing, and surface treatment, clay reveals its unique character.

Organic silhouettes, subtle irregularities, raw textures, and variations in volume create a visual language that celebrates both the material itself and the human hand behind each creation.

Drawing from nature, architecture, and historical references, contemporary ceramic art reinterprets traditional forms through a modern perspective.

Vessels, sculptural objects, and functional pieces move beyond their original purpose, becoming individual expressions of creativity, craftsmanship, and artistic exploration.

Lavatoy is the creative ceramics studio of self-taught Greek ceramic artist Nikos Katsoulas, based in Lamia, Greece.

Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek pottery, the natural landscape, and timeless vessel forms, Katsoulas explores the relationship between heritage and contemporary aesthetics.

Amphorae, sculptural vessels, and functional objects take on a new identity through an intuitive, hands-on process. Organic forms, raw textures, and architectural simplicity define a distinctive artistic language, where the balance between volume and form plays a central role.

The identity of Lavatoy is deeply connected to the artist’s origins in Elateia, Central Greece. Its emblem is inspired by a Neolithic clay figurine discovered in the region, symbolizing the continuity of ceramic craftsmanship through time.

Each piece represents a different exploration of material and form. Rather than reproducing the past, Katsoulas reinterprets its essence through a contemporary sculptural perspective.

Today, Lavatoy’s creations can be found in selected hotels, architectural projects, private collections, and design spaces in Greece and internationally.
